He's a big hitter, the Lama

Saw the Dalai Lama speak at my neuroscience conference yesterday. I stood/sat in line for maybe 1.5 hours, and it paid off in a 5th-row seat. The title was "the neuroscience of meditation" which is a topic I find fascinating and was looking forward to hearing about, but that wasn't the topic at all. Struggle is important, but I think DL was talking more about the reaction to suffering. i.e. suffering is unavoidable, but one's perception of it and experience of it is the key to happiness. I doubt he would think being totally doped up or lobotomized would be "living", either. Have you read any of his books? His voice is strong in those too. I hope I get to see him some day! :)

I heart the Dalai Lama. A friend from UCI is also at that conference. She was looking forward to seeing DL as well.
