I also thought the loop on his head looked like a spoiler. That's the one thing I like about him.
I do agree that the design was probably made to maximize speed... though I still think they could have done a better job with it, if that was their goal. My main problem with the headtail is that I don't see how it's supposed to work with his skeleton. Tails are an extension of the spine; tails aren't supposed to be growing out of the skull! Unless, of course, the headtail doesn't have a skeleton in it. I suppose it's possible that the tail is more like hair or a windsock.
You know, I think I would be slightly less annoyed at this new Mewtwo if we had more gen 6 news. Of all the Pokemon they've revealed, the only ones I actually liked are Yveltal and Xerneas. They had better be hiding some type of spectacular "big reveal" for these games.
It took me a while to get used to it, but now I think it looks cool.
I don't know, if the designers at GameFreak started to really base all pokemon on established anatomical systems then we really wouldn't have a lot of the pokemon we do, like Voltorb, HootHoot, Mawile, Bronzor, Roggenrola, etc. I believe putting restraints like that onto a creature design takes a lot of the fun out of it... After all, they're fictional characters. c:
I do agree with you there, we definitely have had a lot less news than in past generations.
Well, Voltorb, Bronzor, and Roggenrola don't really have skeletons, imo. They're all made of inanimate objects (rocks/metal/plastic) and can move through hand-wavy video game/anime physics. I give them a pass because they're not really based on animals or an animal anatomical structure. Hoothoot's skeleton would be really compact and weird, but at least everything is in the right location, relatively speaking. I consider Mawile kind of a special case, even though it has something growing out of its head, because the Pokedex entry says that the steel jaws on its head are actually horns

Right, but my point was that you can't put a 'one size fits all' label on a fictional character. They're only based on real animals, they aren't supposed to be real animals. Voltorb, Bronzor, and Roggenrola are all inanimate objects and therefore shouldn't be sentient, much less move around of their own volition and use fantastical powers/attacks. HootHoot shouldn't even be able to fly with those tiny wings in relation to its larger, spherical body, and the fact that the pokedex states that Mawile's extension are 'horns' is irrelevant; Mawile is able to move these 'horns' at will which suggests that it was an extension of the spine going out the back of its head to carry nerves to control the 'horns' and to give structural support/control. What I'm trying to say is that if you keep a high notion of realism to a video game then you're always going to find fault and/or be disappointed. I'm not saying you can't be disappointed if you find a design aesthetically unpleasing, but the sets of rules you use to judge how much you like or

THANK YOU! I actually really like your theory and enjoyed reading it XD I thought it might be only natural that when they did genetics to make a perfect Pokemon, that there were some that failed and that's how it would come to this. Just look at PorygonZ, same thing.
I agree that the feet are just the ones that disturb me, but the more I see it, the more I am getting used to it (but I won't buy any merch of him, sticking to mine). I am really sad though what drama this Pokemon is getting, I wish people would appreciate that we are getting some Pokemon spoilers after all :/ (though I do admit also that I expected something different)
Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to read it all. Halfway through I started thinking it was way too long. xD
I'm getting depressed about all the hate as well. And I do appreciate that they are still releasing some information, but I think many of us have become spoiled because past generations revealed a lot more info before the game was released. :c
Wow, I'm impressed with your theory and really enjoyed reading it! When I first saw the pics, I actually liked Newtwo right off the bat. I think he is super cute. C:
