I think your prof's evolution-based beliefs are incorrect. But I think he's dead wrong for using his classroom to intimidate students -- on ANY issue. Legally, such treatment can even be considered harrassment if he gets too vitriolic.
I've always hated classes in which the students are required to nod-and-smile, memorize-and-parrot, rather than expressing their own opinions in a "free and open exchange of ideas" as the university system was designed to encourage.
