Seattle Gathering 2010 report

Dann

Follow the magic link thingie...

(My apologies for missing any names - it's late, I'm tired.)

It all started on a surprisingly foggy Seattle morning - not that clouds and fog are strangers to the area, but this is August, for Pete's sake. We get one nice month a year, is it too much to ask for it to be nice?

Under a strange tower that almost looked like a landed UFO, I found...

A strange silver dome.

Which started smoking.

Certain questionable people were questionable (Rosie and VM).

The dome began spraying water into the air, making a wonderful gathering point. As everyone continued to gather, a small child decided to tempt fate. We had fun watching and pointing and laughing. And then, while extolling the virtues of playing it safe, Gen took a step backwards... Right into the path of the Garbage Truck of Comedic Irony. No PPCers were injured, fortunately.

Rosie brought a friend - Kefka, the steampunk space pirate octopus, provided an excelent head-turner throughout the day.

VM found the magazine she should have seen weeks ago. Too late!

After a brief consideration of giant chess pieces, we mocked the EMP, considered the various possibilities inherent in Generic Surface (welds or rivets?), and were about to get on a bus when it informed us that it was, in fact, the wrong bus.

So, leaving oddly rippled grey titanium behind us, we decided to go for a walk.

Not long thereafter, we found a rather awesome bicycle.

And then were distracted by puppies.

Down by Pike Place Market, we found what was quickly termed a Shocktopus. It is, apparently, scary enough to frighten sharks. We also stopped by the very first Starbucks, of which I do not have any good pictures.

I took the opportunity to grab a quick most-of-the-group picture. Gen is hiding behind Helen.

Being the easily distractable people that we are, we stopped at a cheese shop for free samples. Helen noticed that we were being watched by a certain someone.

Follow the octopus!

Of course, we found a bookstore.

It was at this point that a certain someone reappeared - a cunning disguise, but not enough to fool sharp PPC eyes!

Sue blood jewelry, anyone?

I blame Rosie for spotting the CAF monstrosity. Yes, that's a pink seal. With eyeliner. And a bow. There was one with brighter pink heart-shaped dots on it, too.

Half the group at the waterfront - Right to left, we have Makari, VM, and Joe, a friend of Pretzel.

And the rest of the group - Joe, Pretzel, Rosie, Gen and Helen. We were, at this point, lurking with intent to skulk. (Actually a criminal charge in Georgia in the 1970s. Fun times.)

Best warning sign ever.

One way or another, all good things must come to an end. After tromping all over Seattle, we paused for a group shot. We managed to con Joe into taking it for us. In the back, we have Makari, Gen, VM, the Sunflower, Pretzel, Helen, and Rosie. In front, of course, is myself and Kefka.
