Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Gem and Metal Magic has an entry about silicon!

*looks*

Um... no, wait, I was wrong. That must be in Conway's Crystal Enchantments or something, and I don't have that right now. I know I saw an entry about silicon somewhere and I thought it was interesting at the time. Does anyone else have those on hand and can check them?

Wish I had a chunk like that to tinker with. No experience myself, but it occurs to me that silicon, on the chemical level, tends to form very strong bonds, especially with oxygen, hence all the glasses and sand we know and love. Perhaps this may have applications in binding things together as well as its associations with logic, processing, memory and most modern tech?

Don't know any of the above for sure, but may be a start,
