oh great...now technology is the source of all evil

Some days, I wonder if those who identify as technopagans are really ever going to fit in with other Pagan-folk...this article certainly suggests that, for some factions, technology is the enemy, and the only way to be Pagan is to go all-natural...

From an article on Witchvox this week(snipped a bunch...it's rather long and rambling ( Read more... )

Those that see technology as the enemy are just fundimentalists - like any other fundimentalists, they an extreme and a minority. Reality is more towards the center.

The thing is, the most logical course of action is NOT to eliminate technology (especially if it requires a mythical EMP pulse to hit the earth). The most logical thing to do is learn to use the technology. Technological progess requires mathcing spiritual progress.

*winces* Wow. That last excerpt is just... cruel, almost. I wasn't aware that wishing death and harm on your fellow humans was such a big part of so many pagan/Wiccan beliefs (nevermind that the author also fails to recognize the simple scientific fact that a solar flare strong enough to penetrate earth's atmosphere would not only destroy technology, but probably all life as well!) I'd be interested in speaking with this author to ask them why they insist on limiting their view on "the spiritual aspect of things", and why they close themself off to spirituality in forms other than what they are familiar and comfortable with. The way I see, there's little to be gained from classifying everything as "spiritual" or "non-spiritual", and thus limiting one's insight and perspective.

Every person is certainly entitled to their own beliefs and interpretations of things, and I'm not saying that their beliefs are "bad" or anything, but wishing harm on others like that just isn't something I can keep quiet about :\

vilification of technology is pretty low on the list of reasons why that article sucks.

Whilst certainly disconcerting, I think we all knew it would happen sooner or later. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that at some point in the very near future a large part of the pagan social culture will fracture off into anti-technology groups (as I guess you inferred ( ... )

Hrm. I wonder if they take "letters to the editor" on the appropriateness of articles they post....

*goes off to investigate*
