Electronic Grounding

Jul 22, 2006 23:45

I recently obtained a new desk which gives me a nice large space on which I found it very convenient to do Tarot readings. I found, however, that I didn’t feel right grounding in my computer chair. The lack of ass to carpet contact was unnerving ( Read more... )

I don't have anything interesting to say on the subject, but I'd just like to note for the record that the phrase "The lack of ass to carpet contact was unnerving." is now in my personal quotefile.

Well, I guess some interesting things. I tend not to ground often at all- whenever I try, it makes me feel not so much calm and controlled as dopey and unfocused. That's if I ground to, well, the ground- but if I try to balance my energy into the air, I do fine.

I guess I'm just weird like that, but something tells me that the "normal" grounding procedure may not be so one-size-fits-all.

I agree. My usual grounding method is a tree visualization. Roots pushing into the ground and wending there way around to envelope the whole inside of the earth. Then trunk and branches reaching up into the sky and growing, and branching until the whole earth, the moon, sun, and stars are all wrapped up in them. No leaves tho, now that I think about it. I usually use this as a focusing method before a reading, and also to connect myself with the querent and everything around them.

I understand your unfocused feeling, I think using both the branches and roots is what balances that for me. Although, I have found that if I get up and move around to soon after grounding, or if I don't sort of release it, then I really feel woozy and weird.

I picked that idea up from a website a long time ago, but I think my method might be a little more elaborate than what they imagined.

Well I COULD just walk into the next room and tell you, but I thought I'd give your comments some fan serviceP). I guess the main grounding approach I have is the Qabalistic Cross from the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. It involves standing relaxed, and imagining all the light/energy in the universe condensing into a basketball sized sphere far above your head. I then raise my arm and with index finger(acting as dagger) draw it down as it becomes a shaft of light that goes through me and down forever. The same from right to left, until I am at the center of the universe (dramatic, I know). All the while I'm vibrating particular words, the traditional being in Hebrew ( ... )

You really ought to use a good grounding strap connected to a good earth ground, such as a metal water pipe. Heavy copper braid works well for grounding strap and is available from all the usual suspects (McMaster-Carr, Digikey, etc). :)

Haha, I have one of those. Hmmm, that's an interesting idea.

That's actually very useful, particularly when engaged in some sort of practice that can take you a little far out at times.

I’d love to hear about anyone else who’s grounded ‘on-line’ and to what use.

I don't do it often, and I guess I started doing it by accident. It doesn't work if I'm not giving my total attention to things on the computer, but it helps me multitask online.

You know the feeling of energy moving through your spine and into the ground and connecting you to the ground and the earth and/or from your head to the air and the sky and stars/universe whatever? Instead of doing that, I project/visualize/feel it moving through my hands and into the keyboard. It helps that I rest my wrists such that they're touching the keyboard. From there, I visualize the energy going through the computer and connecting to the (communications) net.

I'm not sure if that's what you meant by grounding online, and it's certainly not the only way I ground (most of the time it's actually into the *gasp* ground, but sometimes it's into the air).

That's exactly what I was talking about. I guess I didn't consider doing it for more daily type tasks, but that's an excellent idea. Maybe it'll help me focus on this program I need to learn.

I'm not sure that you mean the same thing by grounding that I would... what I'm reading doesn't make sense to me (yet.)

How would you define "grounding?"

Were your feet on the ground when you sat in the chair?

Do you find that you cannot ground unless, well, your ass is on carpet?

How do you ground yourself?

Grounding to me is entering a state of connectedness. Setting aside your isolated subjective point of view and reaching out to the energy around you. Thus opening up an easier conduit for drawing energy in, and for projecting energy outward.

My feet were touching the floor, or perhaps my foot rest. I'm not sure. But I can't see myself grounding through my feet unless I were maybe standing on them.
