Jungian personality types - skepticism / "gen-Y astrology"

Someone linked me yet another Jungian personality type page and since I'm in a puppy-kicking mood I formulated the postulate that the usual criticisms of astrology (all signs could be tweaked to apply to anyone, waste of time, only obscure true self-knowledge) should be applied to the Jungian types ( Read more... )

I've found the MBTI personality types to be fairly useful for reflecting on myself - though admittedly, I also find astrology useful for the same thing. At any rate, I really do notice differences based on the personality typology and find that I tend to like and dislike specific types.

YES, thank you, someone else who thinks it isn't a magical special super-accurate representation of The Real Me! Myself, I don't find it much different from the other endless "what gemstone/tortoise species/season are you?" quizzes. It's just an old, successful meme.

And if I want to subdivide personality traits for introspection or just to look at things in new ways, I'll make up my own categories (and have done). Ones that make sense to me.

i'm an INTJ apparently.

meh, i'd rather find out about someone by asking them for a complete list of video games they play. sega people are different from nintendo people.
