a while back, i came up with a theory that people leave thoughts and ideas lying around, especially in public places where there's a lot of discussion and talk flowing

but yes, I work in a university as well, in the library no less, so it's constant bombardment of new ideas from all directions, it's one of the reasons I love it here.

This could also tie in to the idea of what makes a place "haunted". If one expends large amounts of creative psychic energy in a certain location it could leave behind a creative psychic atmosphere the same way that expending a lot of negative or fearful psychic energy in one location leaves that place feeling frightening or sad. Think about walking into a room where a fight has recently happened. You can literally feel the tension in the air. There is also something to be said for tehexile's answer of course, though.
