CHARACTER
Series: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Name: Irie Shouichi
Age: Twenty-four
Canon Timeline: Current, but let's say Chapter 248 for specifics.

History: Spoilers up to Chapter 218 and beyond, and also includes some spoilers from the extra scenes in the anime. Referred to Wikipedia for some stuff, because some things are mildly confusing on my own. Sob. Also, I got Shouichi's family names from a Chinese Wiki.

Shouichi was something of a normal kid despite his above average intellect, having nothing to do with the Italian mafia; he lived something of a dull life that lacked tragedy with an idealized family of four, which consisted of him including his older sister Akiko, as well as a mother and father named Tomoko and Masatsugu respectively. With his father working into the late evenings, it left Shouichi to interact the most with his sister and mother. Even though he was supposed to be the "man of the house", that's probably not how he felt like the majority of the time. Throughout his early years, television was his solace, later branching into computers as he got a little older. His airy, stay-at-home mother took care of him the majority of the time and his sister nagged on him all the while.

Going to a private school separate from the main heroes was not enough to escape the horrors of mafia. He was, after all, neighbor to Sawada Tsunayoshi. It was on August 8th when little Lambo of the Bovino Family crashed into Shouichi house, after Reborn redirected Lambo's own missile at him merely using chopsticks. Because of this, a package referred as "Bovino's Summer Assortments for Apology" was given to Shouichi by mistake. An attempt to deliver the box to the correct address earned Shouichi a few fateful encounters; his confrontation with the 10 Year Bazooka changed the course of his life entirely.

Sometime during his High School years, he was growing up to become quite the genius, his area of specialty being robotic engineering. Because of this, Shouichi entered in the International Robotics Competition with Spanner. More rivals than anything at first, they were both the finalists for the competition and it was vaguely implied that they may have known each other beforehand. They were thought to have remained close friends afterward, both recognizing each other’s ability in robotics--Shouichi even had personally sent Spanner one of his new concepts for robots. But that's not the only relation Shouichi had at this time. He also knew Byakuran, and designed the game of "Choice" with him some time before the duration of Genkishi's betrayal in the Giglio Nero.

Later, Shouichi would go on to become an A-Rank member of the Millefiore, leading the 2nd Rosa White Spell Squad while possessing one of the six Funeral Wreath rings, his being the one of the Sun. He reports directly to Byakuran often during this time, with the Cervello at his every whim, and has been secretly researching the Ten-Year Bazooka in order to find a way to time travel. Shouichi also built a special White Round Machine that kept the characters' future counterparts in stasis as opposed to them being transported into the past and possibly changing the timeline. While an attack became planned on the Melone Base by the Vongola in hiding and those who had been transported into the future, Shouichi already had assumed the chain of command over the base and realized the location of the Vongola's place of concealment.

It seemed like it was going to be all over for the Vongola, but Shouichi was also a double agent as well as a great actor. After confronting Tsuna and his friends, he shoots his two Cervello subordinates with a specialized bullet and reveals that he is actually on their side. It was actually his past self who was the one that had been bringing people from the present time into the future with the Ten-Year Bazooka, in accordance with a strategy that he planned with the adult Tsunayoshi and Hibari. Thought to have collected all the Mare Rings and everything was in his favor, Byakuran shows up through a hologram to give light that they were, in fact, fake.

Now the real six Funeral Wreaths have been disclosed--not even Shouichi knew anything about their existence. The Vongola family is forced to engage in a tournament similar to what was held with the Varia in the fight for the Vongola Rings, but instead with Byakuran's true subordinates. During the first round, Shouichi took up one of the two Non-Elemental slots alongside Spanner. But not just that; Shouichi was chosen to become a target for the round as well. Dying Will Flames are displayed on the target's chest, as a means of differentiation from the other players. But since drawing out one's Dying Will Flames continuously could mean that they will run out of energy and collapse, this also serves as a 'time limit'...

Personality/Strengths/Weaknesses:

When we first see Shouichi when he's only fourteen, we get the impression of a weak and timid doormat... After meeting an odd crash landing in the middle of his house, he made little resistance to being asked to do a number of things... that of which included returning the box belonging to the Bovino to its rightful address. Little can Shouichi face the eccentricity of the mafia without having his mother on the phone--up to where his mother eventually became mildly tired of his shrieking, handing the phone over to his older sister.

But this is not what Shouichi grows to be. After being intertwined with the Italian mafia, he's had to shape himself to face the world of his nightmares. His personality was not yet set in stone, and he's changed to where he's no longer a 'paranoid android'. Still, there's one thing with Shouichi that seems to have remained with him this whole time. He's smart-- his time in a Private School seems to have only grown and evolved from merely being a student of high caliber to the point where you could call Shouichi a genius.

It wouldn't be right to simply define Shouichi by any stereotypical word: dork, geek, nerd... Even if he is technical and something of a strategist, he has nicely qualified leadership skills and through this, is possibly even skilled at both oral and written communications and negotiations. He did proclaim temporary leadership over both White and Black Spell in the Melone Base, while also more normally being a leader for the White Spell's 2nd Rosa Squad. Possessing a bit of fight in him from this, Shouichi is not entirely socially inept, nor is he all that clumsy. It's more accurate to say that he is more reserved or private instead, and that he's more accustomed to sticking behind his computer screen or doing engineer work unless his duties call for something else. It's been remarked by Reborn himself that Shouichi "is the kind of guy who pulls through when you need him."

Needless to say, he's accomplished a lot during these passing ten years. That is because you most often might see him so absorbed in his work that he misses sleep, relying on canned coffee to keep him up through whatever project he may be focused on until he unwillingly submits to slumber right at his desk. Shouichi is devoted to his work so much that he seems to go above and beyond, not stopping until the very end. This is probably why he won first place in the Robotics Competition, and rose to A Rank before Spanner ever did. But that doesn't mean that he disregards others entirely, nor does he have an ego--he respects Spanner's ability, and puts a great deal of trust into him even if the rest of White Spell may not, due to his opposing alliance in the Black Spell. In fact, Shouichi could even be considered kind; he went through the trouble of sending daifuku to Byakuran all the way in Italy while he was still on the other side of the globe in Japan.

Shouichi also has the ability to remain calm and serious in order to work on things effectively. He's not all that high-strung as you might expect him to be. He's able to mask his anxiety really well, at least until it becomes too much for him to bear. That is when his body responds to the stress through a stomach ache, much to Shouichi's obvious dismay. But what seems to be somewhat surprising for the master-hand is that he has something of a temper. There are times where he cannot help but let his frustrations show.

Able to think quickly, this is a quality that is demanded for with a lot of things that Shouichi is involved with--Byakuran himself seems to be a great hassle alone. He's patently logical and able to think outside the box, always considering the worst-case scenario and acting appropriately. But at the same time, Shouichi's quite messy, always seeming to have some kind of organized mess on his desk. If you clean it up, he most likely won't be able to find anything even if it's in the supposed spot where it's supposed to be. You can't deny, however, that such a trait allows for some degree of creativity which is needed when it comes to his specialty of designing numerous types of robotics.

Finally, we can say that not only is Shouichi devoted to his handiwork, but he is also devoted to people. Through good will, he will readily sacrifice himself for his friends or people he holds dear. I mean, this guy actually got himself into an environment where one wrong move or slip up of his true to type deception under the rose could mean death with just the wave of a hand by Byakuran who already planned the whole killing sweep against Vongola... All just for a complex plan that may not even be carried out accordingly in the end? Honestly.

Abilities, etc.:

With Shouichi's latest features within the Reborn games, he has been revealed to be perhaps one of the best healing support in comparison to any of the other characters or selections. This is not surprising, as the innate ability of all Sun flames is "Activation", not to mention he did hold the (fake) Sun Mare Ring for quite some time while supposedly being Byakuran's "most trusted subordinate" during his time in Millefiore. Other flame-based abilities Shouichi has shown is that his special box is actually the Melone Base itself pretty much, whose rooms he can rearrange using his Activation energy. It also appears that his box animals are more plant-based than other characters, revealing to be Venus flytraps which assaulted Sawada Tsunayoshi while parasailing through the base with Spanner attached to him. But as long as he doesn't have his ring or boxes, he can't really do anything. More normal abilities Shouichi possesses is that he is able to build top-notch robots or mechanisms, and he knows how to handle a gun.

Items brought to Vermeil:

Sun Ring: I'm very sure that Shouichi wouldn't enter into Choice entirely defenseless. Since Shouichi's Mare Ring shattered, he probably has a B-Ranked ring replacement.

One or two boxes: Although Shouichi's boxes are somewhat useless outside of the Melone Base, he would probably have some kind of back-up. Until Shouichi engages combat in the Choice game, there are no specifics other than that Shouichi can use his flame to heal others.
UPDATE: Chapter 250 confirms that Shouichi is not armed with any box weapons. However, due to already having used a Sun Ring in Royals Flushed, he does have it for Role Play sake.

Gun: The gun that he fired against the Cervello. As they collapsed, Shouichi said "Don't think bad of me, it'll just make you a little sleepy". This being said, what's loaded in the gun isn't regular bullets that can kill you. But once these particular mafia-constructed bullets are gone, Shouichi may have to give that up.

Shouichi lacks his regular music that wasn't brought with him to Vermeil just as it wasn't brought with him to the battlefield. Not to mention, Vermeil has a lack of technology all together. Once Shouichi realizes this... well...

SAMPLES
Normal Sample Post:

[How lucky of Shouichi to be lost in some dark place when there's things to be done with the showdown between Vongola's Guardians and the real Funeral Wreaths--right during the middle of the whole thing, too.]

...

Did my Dying Will Flames run out already...? Did I collapse? Then does this mean...

[He'd worry about his attire--his collar's a little tight--but does this mean he's... dead? Did the Vongola lose their first round because of him? But if he was dead, doesn't that mean that he wouldn't get a stomach a stomach ache? Ouch...]

H-hey, Spanner, are you there? Tsunayoshi-kun...?

Log Sample:

(Taken from an AU Role Play where Shouichi was interacting with Yamamoto. Hopefully this works for now as a sample.)

Again, Shouichi's smile was apprehensive, but that was soon starting to fade as he began to open up to Yamamoto's inviting smile. It was this alone that conjured up the thought that it might not be so bad after all, becoming friends with the other student. That was, even if he did vaguely remember this guy doing a "throw of death", during the time of his failed delivery several years ago. But in the back of his head, Shouichi reminded himself it was fine, he meant him no harm... But the bespectacled boy made note not to subject to playing any form of sports with this Yamamoto Takeshi.

Not that physical education was his forte in the first place, anyway--clichés aside.

But solicitous was Shouichi's approach to Yamamoto's lie; he knew just about right away that Yamamoto was lying, because if he had managed to wind up in some school with the oddities that lived near him, he'd never be able to avoid them as much as he has now. He wasn't all that alarmed though. He had already spoken with Tsunayoshi-kun himself, so there was no reason any longer to be surprised... even though that hardly meant Shouichi had gained any real answers.

"No, actually, err..." Shouichi began, not really wanting to just brush this aside and simply going along with his lie. Though, that would probably make things a tad less complicated. "I don't go to your school... There's a different reason why you know my name, right?" Shouichi paused for a moment, musing over his words. This wasn't exactly the best time to be overly demanding, was it? "...Never mind, you don't have to tell me." Not now, anyway. Then again, Shouichi probably wouldn't believe it. Just like he didn't want to believe that all those ridiculous experiences were real; it was all just a recurring nightmare.

How did they ever seem to know him all of a sudden? Maybe it had something to do with that Bovino family? He could only guess at this point. And even if he figured he wouldn't believe it, he was still... slightly curious? If only it didn't mean getting himself involved and into trouble and landing an opportunity in prison. Then what the hell would he do?
