The right side of my mouth is wisdom tooth-less! And all in all, it hasn't been nearly was bad as I thought it would be. Everyone at the hospital was lovely, and the only bit that really frightened me was when the consultant told me I might not ever get the feeling back in the side of my face. I was like "WTF? NO-ONE TOLD ME THIS!" But by then it was too late and the guy in the room next to me was freaking out big time, so I just thought "Oh well" and sat and read my book until they called me upstairs. The anaesthetist was just chatting to me about my work, and stuck something in my arm, and said "just imagine you've had one too many gin and tonics..." and then I was waking up going "Oooooh, what happened?" I felt pretty woozy for about half an hour, then they took me back downstairs and gave me some water and I had a nap for another half an hour, then I had some tea and cake and they gave me some coedine tablets and sent me home!
The wierdest thing is? I feel FINE. I fell a bit shaky and tired, but I feel pretty wide awake and I've eaten some scrambled egg and some more cake. I've got all the feeling back in my face, so that's all good, and it's not swollen, or even bruised, which really surprised me. The only disturbing thing is that my face is the exact same colour as the unpleasant make-up job sported by Elijah Wood in ROTK after Frodo is attacked by Shelob. Nice.
Thanks for all your good wishes yesterday! *hugs* I feel sorry for
lee_o and
auroraceleste who only got a local anaesthetic. That must have been quite unpleasant - I'm pretty glad I didn't know what was going on. Perhaps they assumed you were teh hardcore and wouldn't mind someone wrenching teeth out of your mouth while you were awake. I reckon the NHS were pretty stingy with the old general anaesthetic though - sounds like
ciara_belle and
ratherfreakish got a hell of a lot more medication than I did!
