So, I think I've gotten everything out of this system that I can. Jon created a winner with this thing 6 years ago and I am thankful that the little monster has lasted me this long with so little trouble ( Read more... )

Case: Antec
Monitor: Dell (seriously - they use samsung parts, same as most everybody else, and they're beautiful)

Woot thanks for the reply. Yeah, my major problem is trying to find a decent monitor. Seems like the least important thing to me with a computer and I know jack squat ^^;;

Have you seen/read any reviews that go into detail on quad cores? I know that not much is out there that supports them ,and that a dual is lookig like the way to go, but I want to build a comp that will last me 5+ years and I'd rather buy a few parts that are going to make the difference and as far as I've read it seems that quads aren't the way to go?

Thanks for the reply, and I hope you and Tracy are doing well ^^ Miss you guys.

I've always had good luck with stuff from NewEgg. They tend to be cheaper than the major retailers and have better selection. Make sure that whatever you are looking at, you read the reviews. Jess and I managed to avoid getting a really noisy fan by reading what everyone else said.

Some general tips, dual and quad cores generate a lot of heat, so make sure the case you get supports both intake and exhaust fans. If you can get one that will let you mount an 80mm or better in the front and a 120mm or bigger in the back you should get enough airflow to keep cool. A side exhaust port over the CPU can be useful too. For hard drives, SATA is the way to go, just make sure to get 3 or 6 Gbps, not 1.5. If you need any help with it, drop me a line or give us a call.

Sweet. I'll get more inquisitive about items when and if I know I get any money. Right now I am just reading reviews and drooling ^^;;
