[When Mirai wakes up in a strange bed wearing clothes she knew she didn't own, her first reaction isn't to scream in panic. She manages not to freak out seeing her picture with people she didn't know around, too, and only frowns at them ( Read more... )

...I am unaware of any people by those names, but from your tone, you are a new arrival, right?

[It seems that every time she turns around, someone new has arrived. Is the town stepping up its activities? If so, for what purpose? Is there any pattern for the new arrivals? A good number of that seem to be children...]

Yeah, I guess so. I wasn't here yesterday, at least. Who is this?

[Mirai had already said her name on the line and wasn't ready to give out much more information just yet, so she doesn't introduce herself. This place was too new and strange to risk giving too much away.]

I am Bazett Fraga McRemitz. I am in a similar situation to yours in that I was transported from my world to this town. How much do you already know about this place?

I know that there is a creepy woman who thinks I'm her daughter, and two other kids here like her. This place is called "Mayfield" and it's kept one of my friends here since October, but we never noticed her missing.

I know enough to say this place is absolutely crazy.

Then it seems you share a house with three drones. This place a form of genius loci that likes to kidnap people and randomly assign them into houses and family units. Some of your housemates may be sentient, but the drones, as they are called, are mindless creatures controlled by the will of the town. This town seems to like to imitate a stereotypical version of 1950s American towns. As long as you play along with the role that the town assigns you, you should be able to cope until we finally find a way to escape. However, if you refuse to do so, then you will be droned for a certain amount of time.

Do you have any more questions?

[Mirai pauses for a moment, trying to absorb all of that, then begins asking more questions.]

What kind of role am I supposed to be playing? And what happens when you get "droned"?

That of a child. That means you have to go to school everyday and come home everyday too.

[She is not too sure what a child role entails.]

I am not sure. I have never been droned before.

[Supposedly, she had, but she does not remember now.]

From what I have seen of "droned" indivduals, they act almost the same as all drones. They speak as if they have been here for their entire lives and behave overly cheerfully.

School, huh? I guess it could be worse. Better than becoming like those people, anyway.

[She huffs.]

You go back to normal after a while, don't you?

Maybe. I have not had many encounters with droned individuals. I hear that some people are droned almost permanently, though.
