They say everyone's a critic, but...

Now that I am entering the security field, I am more and more conscious of watching other security people do their jobs, and asking myself, "Could I do that any better?"

Now, I am sure that Justin Bieber's bodyguard, Moshe Benabou, doesn't have an easy job, and it may be that "The Beebs" doesn't really take direction from the hired help.

But in ( Read more... )

In Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec, the legal drinking age is 18, but here in Ontario, and in the rest of Canada, it is 19. And since Bieber looks about 15 and is a celebrity, I'm guessing he would definitely be carded, or else any bartender serving him would be putting the establishment's license at risk. Especially with a paparazzi magnet like "The Beebs". And if I were his personal security specialist, I'd make sure I advised him properly on that.

In my view, the job isn't just keeping the client physically safe and unbothered by unwanted intrusions, but also helping to prevent compromising situations or situations that allow the client to made to look bad. A good security guy always plans ahead, always has alternatives in mind and constantly re-assesses the situation to make sure the best alternative is taken to keep the client protected and given the best options to get where they need to go and do what they need to do.

7 AM on Wednesday morning.

I've done a lot of review and the training course was very thorough, so at this point, my main concern is just getting myself to the test center early enough to make sure 'm not late, and remembering to have the right ID.

The test center is not far from my house, but it involves three bus routes and bus service around 6 AM is kinds of sketchy.

But I am confident everything will go well and by tomorrow afternoon, I can relax and just wait for my results, so I can submit my license application.

Thanks for your support and encouragement, Neil.

I have now written the exam, and I hope to have the results in a few days, though the testing organization only promises to post scores within 5 business days.

The exam was tougher than I expected, but not too bad. I finished in 30 minutes, Of the 60 questions, I answered 50 with a fairly high level of confidence, and skipped 10, going back to those and concentrating on eliminating answers I could determine were certainly wrong. Of those 10, I have confirmed now that I got 4 of them right, and one wrong.

Since I need a mark of 62% to pass, I could miss up to 22 questions and still pass, and I am fairly sure I did better than that.

In any case, I am glad to have that done, and now I just need to get my mark, and if I passed, submit my license application.
