Well lets point out I hate needles. I can give a shot or see a shot given, but I hate needles if it has to do with them putting it in my arm or hand. Guess what and this sucks,,, I need to get the Hep. B shots, the chicken Pox vac.(even though I had chicken pox's bad as a child) and I need a TB test. SO my doctor is going to call me back and ( Read more... )

Better get used to the needles...you will become a practice pincushion for your fellow students...just as you will practice on them.

Good luck.

As for me, I don't mind them. I have found that watching them stick me makes it a whole lot easier.

If I dont watch its not as bad..........but you betcha I will be watching whoever sticks me in class..........Truley I have got better over the years. When I was in first grade I was in the hospital for about 3 weeks and they had to come and switch iv's everyday from one arm to the other. ....You can have a nurse that is great at inserting them and then you can have one that doesnt know what they are doing and gets you about 3 or 4 times before I ask for another. SO trust me I will do fine on school but I am not looking forward to that part of our labs:)

I can imagine. I have good veins. Only takes on stick and they have it in.

Lucky you........I do also, but sometimes I have been dehydrated so well dehydration and needle sticking do not make a good combo:)

Needles are weird to me, too. I don't mind having them myself or even poking myself with them, it's just other people poking me and, more uncomfortably, me poking other people with them (which I haven't done).

I will be poking people with them eventually, but I will have the confidence to do it right the first time. One thing my step dad said to me when I had to clean his open wound from surgery. I kept asking him if he was okay and just really caring about him......he said that I will have no problem because I have a lot of compassion for others. I dont want to hurt anyone but I do want to be the best nurse I can, so it looks like I am going to get used to the needles afterall.

Oh your out of school. Congrats on being a senior:)

you know, i have blocked out pain for so long, needles are nothing to me overall.

but, let me tell you, pelvic exams are my kryptonite.

soooo....

when i go get them, i usually bring a book or magazine in there and completely try to focus my mind on what i am looking at, or what i am reading, and it helps me.

maybe it can help you too.

Thank you Angeli for the suggestions. I usually just turn my head and wait for the prick and then its done. Like I said I am getting a lot better with them. After my nursing school I will be a pro..........lol. Yeah pelvic exams arent nice, but needed. Have a great day:)
