Seriously... i know you aren't stupid enough to get caught.

That being said. I would assume that you were involved in a "misunderstanding" of some sort, and in the effort to better educate the poor fool (probably protecting some one from that poor fool) you were intercepted by the police and will only be spending a night there for the sake of safety. After all it was self defense right?
