Fun Question 3 with a song of the week

Dec 13, 2008 23:41

All right.  So last week I posited the idea of, which president, dead or alive, would be the best drinking buddy.  Got some very interesting responses.

Can't say for sure about Obama, because he hasn't been sworn in so by technicality he's not on the list.  Either Bush doesn't seem to interesting.  Reagan certainly not.  Clinton would get loaded and then start chasing skirts.  Guy would be a terrible wing man.  Carter would be the DD so that's something, but meh, not really what I'm looking for.  None of the founding fathers would be that interesting I don't think.  Nixon would probably be a really scary drunk, I wouldn't want to see that.

Originally I was going Teddy all the way.  I mean talk about man's man.  He'd be a fun drinking buddy.  But I hadn't considered the possibilitiy for personal injury.  And again, the kind of stories that Teddy would have, he is alpha squad leader and once again relegated to wing man.

Next I thought Jackson.  Old Hickory would probably be one heck of a guy to see hammered.  And then I thought about it.  Jackson's probably another one of those mean drunks.  So we'd end up in some fight with some moron and his friends.  And then the night would end making new friends in a holding cell with Jackson still fuming or possibly puking in the toilet.  That is not the sort of evening I"m in a rush to experience.

This left me at something of an impass.  Until I thought a little harder about it and illumination dawned.  Franklin Pierce.  The only president ever to fail to get his parties bid for a second term.  That would be an interesting guy to drink with.

Question for the week:  Question 3.  What is Harrison Ford's best movie.  As per usual I'll answer next week and we'll go from there.

Bonus:  Song of the week!
Title:  Land of Confusion
Artist:  Genesis  or  Disturbed

It is rare that I enjoy the cover as much as the original.  It is even more rare that I have to debate with myself which I like more.  I have loved this song for a long time.  I'm not going to bother with the lyrics for either because I think that was ultimately one of the problems with the song of the week as a concept.  I'll just say that this song has been particularly inspirational of late.  Plus I really really like the imagery in the video for Disturbed.  Very useful of late.  I've nearly finished my submission for the contest.  We'll see how things go from here.  Hope everyone is doing well for the holidays.  I was starting to wonder if it was worth chasing ideas around here on LJ.  Sort of wondering or feeling like nobody really read it.  At least not this time of year.  But I think that's just my insecurity that doesn't trust people to be my friends.  Growing up my friends were few and limited.  And even now most of my friends in town are sort of selective in terms of when I can see them.  And I can't very well hang out on a Wednesday night with my students.  Most of them are under age 10, I wouldn't enjoy myself and people would talk.  Doesn't leave a whole lot.  Okay, now i'm being all bitchy and emo when I was trying to go for the funny and the entertaining.  Jester is trumped again.  Story of my life.  Or well, since I was about 15 or 16 anyway.
