I disagree, on most of the points. You speak of cynicism as if it is an uncontrollable state that blinds the host to reason. Cynicism can be like any other predisposition. Is a person who is trusting blind because they are inable to see if someone is not trust worthy or are they unable to see trust betrayed? No. Cynicism is just a predisposition brought on by seeing many things you once thought good as bad due to having learned more about them. A cynic is not unable to see good things, but is just less likely to believe something is really good without a greater amount of evidence. Further, i don't think cynicism has to be connected with a sense of moral superiority. A cynic can believe nothing is good including him or herself. Also, i think the opposite of cynicism is naïveté, and personally although you may be happier with the later, the former is the more educated stance of the two.
