I've found the sander attachments to drills don't work so well. They seem to leave uneven paterns and makes it difficult to get a smooth finish. Never tried buffer attachments though. What for?
the fact that I got them for 50 cents at a garage sale increases the awesomeness exponentially.
Does your sander attachment come with rubber base and such? It smoothens out the pattern, and when you need a lot of sanding done, it speeds up the process a lot, I'm sure it could come in useful. There are also steel wool attachments as well as grinder attachments I could imagine to be quite cumbersome to use.
I haven't found a specific reason to use it yet, but I still have a few weeks for summer.
