My younger sister has been working for a company that developed and sells a plasma plastic-surgery laser. Today, she found out that she no longer has a job. No severance, no benefits - just *poof*. She's on a business trip at the moment and doesn't even know if she'll be reimbursed for travel expenses. Crap.

Going home soon. Glad to be wrong.

Tomorrow morning I'll be up well before six so I can vote when the polls open, then get home so D can go without the kids. After that, I'll kiss my family goodbye and spend the next 24 hours at work with my fingers crossed.

As I've mentioned frequently in posts here, the Dude talks like a little caveman. I heard for the umpteenth time last week at the pediatrician's that he has huge tonsils. Since then, I've been paying closer and more objective attention to his speech, and he really does sound clogged up, even after two weeks of claritin and singulair. He snores ( ( Read more... )

When I got home this morning, I was informed by the 4yo that he has strep again. I told him that it was unlikely, given that he just finished ten days of antibiotics, but that perhaps he had gotten the sore-throat virus that I had. He pondered that for a while, then just before we got to school he announced, "Mommy - I have the virus."

For the last year or so, the relationship between our boys has been one big squabble. Initially J wasn't very tolerant of the Dude's efforts to participate in his play, which segued into the Dude realizing how easy it is to tweak his big brother, and there has been...no...peace. I will never again take the word of a medical practitioner that someone for whom I'm responsible has strep unless they do the damned test. I fed the boys mushy stuff, then put them both down for naps. J was an absolute angel, and his brother wasn't too bad once he figured out Mommy meant business and he wasn't getting out of bed.
