I am already looking forward to re-watching it, OMG.
I was looking away during the opening titles, so I didn't know it was Richard Curtis until the end. But then I was like, "OH, THAT'S WHY I ADORED IT LIKE AN ADORINGLY ADORE-Y ADORER" <333
I have to say, a teeny tiny bit of me heard that line about their children being really ginger and thought, "Well, not necessarily, it is a recessive allele after all!"
You know, all up on my GCSE Science & Additional Science high horse.
So I think you can totally claim the title of ultimate ginger without being their daughter. You can be part of their gang of awesome gingers. I approve of this idea.
IT WAS SO GOOD and then it got needlessly sentimental.
(I'm sorry, the "for Amy" pushed it over the edge for me, but I mostly loved it!)
In other news, AMY POND, MARRY ME. She's so ridiculous and excitable, I love her. And as sad as the whole Rory thing is and such, I much prefer the dynamic of TEAM ELEVEN without him.
I KNOW RIGHT, AMY <333 The way she was bouncing up and down like "Vincent van Gogh! It's Vincent van Gogh!" I like her on her own (she's got her own personality and it includes 'slightly mad', so naturally I like her), but I have to say, I did like Rory, and I do generally like the TARDIS with as many people in it as possible (awesome team dynamic ftw).
But in a way I'm glad to see the back of the "Doctor/Rose/Mickey v2.0" thing, too. And I'm sure there's some series-finale-type reason for getting rid of him, like he's going to turn out to still be alive inside the ~crack in the wall~, or they'll get the chance to go back to the day before the wedding, or whatever. Plus it changes the dynamic between 11 and Amy, because he's keeping a secret from her... So I don't know, I can't judge whether I think it was the right thing yet.
^^ Agree so hard! It was perfect until "for Amy" and then we all groaned quite a lot.
Tbf I may have just loved it for all the gingerness. I mean. My little ginger heart was bursting with ginger pride. But also given ME I loved how they handled his ultimate end &etc. That they couldn't change it. I almost teared up at the Doctor's "happy things and bad things" speech but caught myself because I was watching it with lots of people.. ha. So good. I love Richard Curtis. <3
The gingerness was a DEFINITE PLUS, "for Amy" was predictably cringey, the "good things and bad things" speech was brilliant. Actually there's this bit of the Iliad that I happened to be revising JUST BEFORE Who came on, where Achilles says that Zeus has two jars, one of good things and one of bad things, and he mixes the two up in a particular blend for each person... I have to say, I felt a tiny bit like it had been written just for me. RICHARD CURTIS <333
