my friend just bought a macbook air.. she loves it except that it seems to overheat very easily and everytime she does something video related (ichating or something) it starts to freeze.. apparently this is a common problem because we found a few forum threads dedicated to it... just fyi : )
i bought a macbook a few months ago and i totally love it.. except it has some pixel issues that were there from right out of the box that i've never taken care of. there is not a apple store close by. :(
Thanks for the input, yeah i've been reading a few forums and i guess the air has some core problems....but i'm still considering it. I'm just so attracted to the Air haha
my friend still loves it...even with the problems.. i think she's say shes going to download a program that helps it not overheat as much..
i totally understand being attracted to it.. i wanted one sooooo bad.. but it wasn't functional for what i needed to do...not that i'm complaining.. totally love my macbook and my imac..
the air is pretty, but it's basically an accompaniment to another computer - it doesn't have an optical (cd/dvd) drive, it only has one usb port, a headphone jack, and a video port. the wireless technology (like using another computer's optical drive) is cool, it's probably not practical for what you want to use it for. well, are you keeping your powerbook? cause that might play into which you pick...
i'm not keeping the powerbook but my brother has a macbook and an imac. So having a optical drive around is not an issue.
I'm leaning more towards the macbook because of power and space. And then towards the Air because It's way light, the multifunction track pad and I'm way attached to the aluminum.
the multifunction trackpad is cool, but i bet that if you got the macbook you wouldn't miss it - because you haven't had it on a computer yet. like how i don't really miss having two-finger scrolling because i'm used to not having it on this powerbook.
another thing to ask yourself is whether toting your powerbook around (weight wise) really causing you an issue? is saving that many pounds (two, between those models) and trading for looks going to be worth losing the tech specifications? oh, and paying $300 more for the air.
i'm not knocking it (cause it IS fucking cool looking, and it is light)... just behing honest about what you'll be paying for!
