Most teachers didn't choose that profession because they're out to get you. Especially if you've been on the ball all along, letting the professor know as soon as possible is the best you can do.
I once showed up to a final exam A WHOLE DAY LATE. I called the professor at home (this was 7:30 in the morning), and she asked when I'd like to take it. She even ended up being my thesis advisor, and we laughed about it for years. Seriously, these things happen all the time.
I hope you called your teacher when it happened and left a voicemail. Then sent an email to confirm. You could always screen-capture the page to prove it. Stupid technology always fucks up. >:(
