I have an idea of who may have said these hurtful things to you and if I am right in whom I think it is then I am not surprised. You're right when you say that people need to mind their own business because no one knows what the future holds. Don't let ANYONE bring you down sweetie because what you and mancer have is hard to find and just because you are not next door neighbors doesn't mean that this can not work. You don't need to see eachother everyday for love to work. Trust me, I know this. Actually if anything, being apart makes love stronger. So just keep ya head up and don't listen to anyone trying to bring you down. Some people are insecure with themselves and for them to pick on your relationship makes that even more obvious.
