Shows I have not watched in years! They were a-okay!

I watched Supernatural tonight because I heard they were having a Cheeseboard* episode (I love it when a show does meta or self-parody) and was immediately reminded as to why I stopped watching this show early-on in first season... DUDE, LIKE A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE GOT OFFED IN GRUESOME AND HORRIFIC WAYS IN THE "PREVIOUSLY-ON-SUPERNATURAL" OPENER ( Read more... )

Yes, I think you're correct! I remember the scene, but blanked on the song they were singing (frankly, they don't sing all that clearly!)

Thorne_scratch shared some trivia: The French Mistake is "When an otherwise straight male is persuaded to, or on a whim in the heat of the moment, engages in a homosexual act of which he later regrets and is ashamed."

I don't think that particular meaning has anything to do with the Supernatural episode, it's just the joke the song is based on.

I thought it was the Blazing Saddles ref, initially. Though apparently (though I didn't pick this up until someone mentioned it?) the French Mistake is also slang for "When an otherwise straight male is persuaded to, or on a whim in the heat of the moment, engages in a homosexual act of which he later regrets and is ashamed."

And the people on set make a big deal out of "Jensen and Jared are actually talking to each other again!"

Take from that what you will. I still think it's Blazing Saddles breaking the fourth wall thing though.

I do remember that scene, but not what the gay-stereotype chorus was singing in the movie. I agree with you, it's definitely a reference to breaking the fourth wall in the show, and perhaps not so much a ref to the meaning of the song title.

Loved the bit of trivia, thanks for sharing it!
