Connie's case manager recognized that in addition to many other needs, Connie needed "life planning" services. While at ASA meeting with her caseworker, Connie was able to obtain legal assistance from the Capital Area AIDS Legal Project (CAALP). A volunteer attorney helped Connie by drafting a will, a living will, powers of attorney for medical and financial decisions, and other legal documents designed to improve the chances that, Connie's needs and desires are respected. A guardianship was also arranged, so that if Connie died, Connie's mother would care for her young daughter.
