About that whole classroom demographic shaping the way kids learn? Yeah, that's why I love working at a Montessori school. The kids have less formal instruction, and they pick up whatever they're learning at their own pace. I've seen a four-year-old writing in perfect cursive and a 6-year-old asking me to help him make the letter J. They're all amazingly smart and socially well-adjusted. It's amazing.

for your future reference, a couple months ago i dumped a glass of water on my phone and it died. so then i put it on our (cold-air-blowing) radiator for an hour or so... and everything was okay again :)

About physics pedagogy: I heard that there was a huge increase in the number of college students who wanted to major in physics after 1945, what with the A-bomb and all that jazz. The relatively overwhelmed physics departments changed their classes to weed out students because there were simply too many interested.
