Whenever I ask ty a question like “Do you want mommy to open the door? Yao4 bu4 yao4?” he will always reply “Yao” and nod his head several times. I can still remember when chiara was his age, she always say “No” and rejected me so many times whenever I want to carry her. I thought that was normal as many kids go throu the “No” phrase at this time,

good luck to the potty training!! chiara is still happily in diapers... coz her mom is too lazy to potty train her.. haha! think i'll wait till she can pull off her pants on her own effectively.

now chiara's no's come in many different tones. the teasing no's, the threatening nos, the screaming nos... etc. hahaha... she only says big "yes", "please" and "thank you" to ice cream, candies and cartoons.

Hahaha... at least she can differiate between nos and yes... right now everything is yes to ty, well guess that is better than no.

Potty training... easier said than done. We'll just try for now and see if ty can be trained or not....if not we'll prob wait till he's 2 yrs old then!

There's been alot of stories on CBC lately about potty training. The westerners are catching on to the "asian" thing of training your kids early...angmohs usually start when kids around 2 yrs old...and Chinese kids...well my mum had me trained by 10 months?! It's just a matter of how "pushy" or "determined" the parents are...seems to me alot of parents feel forced/compelled to hit certain benchmark dates/times for their kids to be able to do something. If i had a kid I would worry about all that too...but because I don't have one...I have a feeling that no matter whether parents take some developmental stages as serious matters or not, the kid will HAVE to catch on eventually anyways...coz when they go to school they will learn it from seeing wat others do? Or does it mean if they are not taught, they won't be able to naturally get there? I dunno...but I hope it will just happen and you can enjoy the process no matter what

Actually the trend now in Spore is to teach them only when they're ready etc. they start to be aware of their bowel movement and will start telling you when they want to poo or pee, amd that's noramlly around 2 yrs old. But our parents generation are brought up in the age where babies as young as 4-6 months will have to be trained and there're research that proves that is true! Anyway I think most importantly is that the process of potty training shouldn't be too harsh on the children...there'll definitely be accidents but we have to deal with it more patiently. Well this is just a trial and if ty is not ready to be potty trained, we can wait till he's 2!
