slack / 50s clip art of domesticity / role refusal elizabeth_rv March 7 2007, 19:39:25 UTC
Huh, maybe if I get this kind of dog, he will transport ME out of the societally-imposed gender role of female domestic slavewife: it's a specter that still lingers over the shoulder, issuing from way back before one's own mom, whispering guilt trips. It nags the girl to do more of the housework than the guy, to pick up all his slack and dirty socks. And then you wake up from its control, vaccuum cleaner still roaring in hand but you've finally stopped pushing it, and realize you've been possessed. It's horrible, a nightmare.

So, the answer is, I guess, step out of the role by use of feigned PTSD. Maybe it's not so much even feigned. Then when the guy inevitably refuses to step up and do his share, the house goes to shit, and why not? So what, you live in squalor, but at least you're happy.
It could work.

as early as I can remember, one thing I've always physically loathed is anything to do with dominance.
Sometimes, when this particular neurosis gets too bad, I find I can't even talk to folks for fear of dominating them with conversation.

The only thing that seems to help is when everyone just lightens the fuck up and people start behaving like actual equals instead of getting sucked into the psychodrama.

So, in short, Alcohol I mean, a loving disposition and sense of humor. Maybe PTSD.

Mmmm, good brew.

Yeah, forgetting the useful stuff in the heat of the moment's a pretty easy thing to do. Hell, sometimes if one is sufficiently messed up by a situation, even articulating something useful can be pretty tough.
But we're human (I've been told. By some guy in a white coat. Strangely enough he was stealing dried pasta from my pantry at the time. In retrospect I don't think he was a scientist, if that's relevant.)
