I don't understand the rational argument for suicide. It seems to miss a point very dear to me, that the doing of things in and of itself has value. Where the Rational Argument points out that it's pointless to eat, (becuase one just gets hungry again)I say that eating, by itself, is worthwhile ( Read more... )

The fact that you, my friend, are out there and that you exist, reminds me that life is worth living. It is good to have people out there that I can think of as being "in my corner" and caring that I'm there.

There are just so few people that I can think of that genuinely remember that I exist.

Precisely! the connections between us and the people we influence, that is life and the justifacation for living. Thank you.

and your corner is a great place to be, a place of strength, and love.

Remember, stick to the plan, man. ^_^

You only say that life is living on it's own accord is because you, like myself, live an outstandingly high standard. We have good food to eat, expensive toys, and secure houses free of vermin and plague. Moreover, we're both pretty much atheists, and recognize that our reasons to live are by their very nature intrinsic ones.

I can definitely understand the idea of life not being worth living. Happily, we're very far from that depth.

true, though I believe I'm less athiest than you.

but I don't get the whole 'well if you look at things stractly rationally, the only rational course of action is annihilation' argument. Sure, plague, vermin, war, horror, tragedy are out there, but this 'ratoinal' argument doesn't even get into that.
