help!

I'm trying to recommend some good high school level sci fi books for a friend to get a little background in something other than fantasy. I have a series in mind, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called! It's all about how the human race started off an interstellar war by using ancient technology to produce suns out of gas giants, ( Read more... )

I have no idea what the series you're looking for is called, but I would recommend Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game series. It's roughly high school level. In fact, it was assigned reading in my sophomore English class.

Yeah, that was one of the first books I recommended, along with Douglas Adams and Battlefield Earth (imo, the only good book Hubbard came out with).

You actually READ Battlefield Earth? Wow. I saw the movie and decided that the book that inspired such garbage should probably be purged from the Earth in a holy conflagration.

Battlefield Earth is one of my favorite books. I know Hubbard is a lunatic, but 70% of the book was good stuff, very well done.
