But, personally, even though I'm all for the compass pointing to Jack when Norrington holds it, I've never been able to actually make out the compass in that scene. So... *shrug*

The triangular thing is a sundial. But when he tilts it, I believe the "disc" is visible.

I'm not a Norrington/Jack shipper (I'm not an ANYone/Jack shipper, for that matter), but I would have found it intriguing if the compass had been pointing to Jack in that scene, because it could have meant so many things on so many levels. So, that's fine ...
But you never SEE the compass face, so there's no way of telling WHERE it's pointing. At least, _I've_ never been able to see it. I suppose I ought to try freezing the DVD, but I really don't think that it's there ...
But I was beginning to wonder if I was MISSing something, so I'm glad you posted this. It's not just me!! ;-D

Well, I'm a total Sparrington shipper, but I don't like when everyone takes a rumor for a fact although it (more or less) clearly isn't. So I wanted to know if there is truth to it...
