This is a brilliant AU and concept. Steve is still wonderfully Steve no matter what universe he's in. You still have him as dependable, self-sacrificing and amazingly adaptable even without the serum. Loki has Steve described correctly. He's the guy who can design a plane in less than 20 minutes without any technology and who would give up his life to save everyone from a grenade. I love the execution and style of this fic. It's very well-done. All the Barton and Stark teasing was spot on, as well as Loki's motives and reasonings. I also enjoy Steve's friendship with Phil, oh poor Phil ^_^

Your comment thrilled me!! I do love Steve as a character because he's pretty darn steadfast no matter the situation (or universe)! And resourceful, too, just as you said. I'm especially glad Loki's motives were believable. Since it was an AU, I made Loki a little nicer and Tony and Clint a little meaner, but tried not to go over the top in either case.

And I agree: poor Phil! The dude needs a vacation.

Oh, this is wonderful. I love how everyone's characters are so vividly themselves, but without Steve to lead them they're a mess; love Loki's motivation and determination; love the slow, tangible growth in their relationship; love how you took and redeployed moments and scenes from the films (fyeah HCs! grenade! Germany!) and basically crafted this thing of awesome. Shiny =D

What a lovely comment! :D It was fun to explore the potential mess the team might be without Steve. It was even more fun to add things like Germany and the grenade test, because imagine how BA it would have been to have Loki show up in Germany as a good guy. That stuff gets me every time! :D

This is so perfectly written. Loki and Steve are both so beautifully written and I love the idea of Loki doing this to atone for his sins. And Steve forgiving him anyway.

I posted a comment but it vanished... just quickly - love the fic. A realy interesting take (although it took me a while to work out Steve had not taken the serum) but I like this AU and your writing style. Good characterisation for both Steve and Loki.
