Probably the closest thing I could find to what I'd like to do with this project.

Similar in technique, complete opposite in tone.
KT Tunstall - Suddenly I See (music video)
http://www.ifilm.com/video/2783049 The first 30 sec of this is pretty much what I want throughout the whole animation.

A very obvious reference I nearly forgot about. Nintendo has already done in video game form, what I want to do as an animation, create a world where everything is made of paper, a living, breathing pop-up book world. I'm looking mostly at the character designs, how they are 3-dimensional but are still composed of only flat layers. Also note the transition when Mario walks into a house, I'd like for my animation to have no cuts, but instead have clever transitions like this.

Another reference I nearly forgot about. Quite obvious what I want to take from this.

This one's different from the others in that it is here not because of the technique it uses, but its tone. This is the kind of 'genre' I want to go for. For the most part its purely a children's animation, but with little jokes about record deals and auto-combusting that older audiences will be able to appreciate.
