A few random things

Had my eyes examined today, and am going to be getting glasses two weeks from now. Not terribly looking forward to all the "holy shit, you have glasses!?" remarks from everyone I know, but I am certainly looking forward to, you know, actually being able to see things at a distance ( Read more... )

I have no idea what the housing situation is like in your neighbourhood, but I highly recommend checking out your options well in advance.

The day I discovered I needed glasses was a revelation. I had no idea my eyes had degraded, and then, suddenly everything had sharp edges again! :D I was too busy being happy I could SEE to care about any glasses-related comments.

I've been doing some basic poking online, getting a feel for what's out there. I was thinking of starting early next year as far as actually looking at apartments go. Do you think I should start sooner than that?

Also, I knew my eyes were bad, but I didn't think they were quite as bad as they were. I kept thinking, there is no way they could make it so that I could read the last line, as I could really only read three lines down. But, sure enough, that last line was clear as day by the time they were done.

Around here, apartments usually only get listed a month or less before you'd be moving in, so there's not much point in falling in love with an apartment two months before you can move. But if you start watching the listings now, you'll get a good idea of what is a reasonable rent for certain types of apartments. Can you afford a bachelor? A junior one-bedroom? How much space do you want/need? How much extra is normal for including utilities? How much extra will you pay for laundry? These kinds of things are good to know. :)

Okay, thanks, I will keep that in mind. That's more or less what I've been doing by scoping things out online, though I will probably do a bit more in-depth searching sooner, then.

I second the search well in advance advice. It sucks trying to find a place.
And Yay Random!

I guess I should consider myself lucky, as I don't really have a moving deadline to speak of.

Still, I'm almost done with school, and I have a "for reals" job, so it's only a matter of time before my parents get sick of me.
