If you don't mind the way they look, some succulents make excellent ground cover. Some even flower! They just don't do so well with being walked on and stuff. So depends on whether you want just the ground covered or if you want a lawn.
That's the problem...we mostly need some sort of lawn. I may put some succulents in the flower beds, but the flower beds are already overflowing with (mostly hardy) flowering plants like tulips and lillies... We have lots of lillies growing along the water line. We have a lot of grass, to be honest, but it's mostly completely dry right now because we haven't been watering it consistently and it hasn't really rained yet this season. So I'm going to pick up a pump. Blah.
