Michael Jackson's death was very sad (though not completely unexpected), and, sure, that first day it was BIG news. But what's going on now? Why is Michael on EVERY news channel/website/paper, STILL? What about Iran, where the election has been "officially" called? What about Iraq, and our troops coming home? What about North Korea? The economic ( Read more... )

I completely agree. This is not news anymore. We have a world in crisis right now and we don't need to keep getting updated on Michael.

Yes. Though The Daily Show is also more fun to watch! But even (especially?) Jon Stewart has made comments that watching ONLY The Daily Show to get news is silly... I wonder if he still agrees (he certainly spends enough time making fun of news networks!).

NPR.

It's pretty much my main source of news these days -- and it is awesome. Morning Edition (in the am) and All Things Considered (late afternoon) have an impressive offering of in-depth, unhyped, wide-ranging, (lo-Michael Jackson) news reporting. If you haven't got a good npr station where you are (Britain, for instance, *grin*), it's also available online -- but actually, now I think of it, Minnesota has excellent Public Radio, doesn't it?

Hm. Haven't gone to the radio as of yet, but it sounds like a good idea.

Yeah, MN has some great public radio. I think I'll have to look into that- thanks!

I seriously swear by the NPR news programs -- do give it a try! I had a quick look at the schedule for Minnesota Public Radio, and it looks pretty good.... And the great thing about radio -- you can catch up on the news while doing something else useful at the same time, like washing the dishes, or darning socks, or putting new wheels on your rollerblades....(*grin*)

The day michael Jackson passed away I predicted that he'd be headliner news for three weeks. My aunt thought I was crazy, but I think I'm going to be proven right.

The sad thing is that the majority of people are more interested in celebrities than world events, which is why I think the news usually focuses on that.
