There is never too much Ecthelion. I'd love to read about them on the ship to M-E.
I have a book about Catherine the Great in the back of my car in case I ever stop at Goodwill. I could send it to you for inspiration for the Romance prompt.
Eh, sometimes there's a certain kind of enjoyment in a good overblown emotional wallow. So definitely don't dismiss it out of hand!
As for Romance... kind of feels like with these two the options are farce and angst. The poetry angle certainly would provide room for both. :P
Depending on how loosely you take the prompts, one option to explore with Valinor is how much he does/doesn't put aside that portion of his life, perhaps in contrast with someone who takes the opposite approach (as appropriate).
Sorry, incomplete thought: while in Gondolin, he does or doesn't think about his time in Valinor, vs. someone else who takes the opposite approach. (It was only 2PM, why did I write like it was 2AM and I was falling asleep?) Just as a possible angle if you didn't know how to tackle something fully set in Valinor.
However, sounds like you have something solid to work with already, so please disregard!

I think I am just going to write about how he joined Turgon's host. It won't be funny. But it will set up his unofficial meeting with E.
