>For those of you who have never been to a pagan festival, getting trashed is almost expected. At many gatherings, they actually have awards for the person who gets the most "spectacularly" drunk.

There are people who think that festivals = DURNK!, but I think you'll find that there are a lot of people who don't as well. That night at Trothmoot was actually the first time in a while that I've gotten hosed at a festival. Mostly I just sip on some beers, and I never feel particularly out of place by doing so.

Also, ECT's Egil Skallagrimmson Award for Excellence in the Field of Retching is presented with a fair degree of humor and all that, but I don't know that I would consider it... complimentary.

That statement was somewhat tongue in cheek, and I do agree that there are a number of heathens and other pagans who do no drinking, or if they do are incredibly moderate in the amount that they are drinking.

However, there are usually a number of people who are getting plastered, I'm trying unsuccessfully to think of a festival where there wasn't at least one or two people who tripped my "I should make sure this person gets to bed" radar, not to mention the "wow, that person is plastered" radar.

There are also a few people who might read this entry who have never been to a pagan gathering, and so I can see them not quite understanding the context without a little explanation.

Wait...You're supposed to get trashed at Heathen Events? Fuck me running up a wall, I'VE BEEN DOING IT WRONG.

In other news, This TL;DR post, for me, shows exactly what a Heathen Is. You keep your oaths, as fucked up and painful as it may seem, YOU KEEP THEM. That, my friend, is Tru, and I am proud to call you my friend.
