I'll read the article when I have a chance, but Sweden is no model to be emulated: they have maintained their technical claim of neutrality only at a very high price, such as collaborating with Hitler and the Nazis in order to avoid being invaded.

I'm generally of the opinion that we can no longer hold actions of nations during World War Two against them. If you look at the Axis powers now, they're all economic giants who are, in no way, representative of their World War Two days. I mean heck, Germany's even an associated member of the UNSC (tell me that wouldn't have been scary during the 40s.) Italy just revived their nuclear capabilities, and if they win that permanent seat on the UNSC that they've been oh-so-striving for (I still maintain that gaining support of the US for their UNSC bid is the single, solitary reason that Silvio Berlusconi's been such a staunch supporter of the US war in Iraq, and the US in general.) Japan is the UN's single largest funder, and the only reason they still don't have an offensive military is because they weren't given the option to join NATO like Germany and Italy were

our blind support for israel is a huge problem and one that probably isn't going away considering AIPAC has both major political parties by the nuts and they're not letting go. the majority of jewish and arab americans support a two state solution which seems to me like a pipe dream at this point. but i digress
