Don't Be Afraid of the Dark Ages, Darling

I need movie recommendations. I've slowly been outfitting my collection with some of my favorites, but I'd like to build it up some more. And considering the depressingly few movies I've seen, I'm at a loss.

LJ: Top 5 favorite movies of all time. Post haste.

Instead of my top five favorites, here's a bunch that I've seen lately that are just really great:
Cassavetes (A Woman Under The Influence is my fave)
Amadeus
Bartleby (<3 Crispin Glover. Srsly.)
Blood Diner (hilaaaarious)
The Crying Game
Harold & Maude
Quills (it's about the Marquis de Sade and stars Geoffrey Rush Kate Winslet and Joaquin Phoenix!)
Watership Down (animated. killer bunnies.)
Wizards (animated. wicket nerdy.)
Blue Velvet
If... (Malcolm McDowell's first movie, i think. it's intense and he is so handsome in it)
From Beyond (Lovecraft story with Jeffrey Combs. rad).
Europa
Brand Upon the Brain
Naked
Down By Law
Blood Tea and Red String (puppet mice!)
Holy Mountain (mind-blowingly bizarre)

Cemetary Man

Because death is *always* funny. Except when it's you own; then it's hysterical. :-D

Several of my personal favorites, chosen because I think they might appeal to you:

Lawrence of Arabia - When is a man truly extraordinary? Is there such a thing as destiny? Is an extraordinary man with a destiny blessed or cursed by it? Won the Best Picture Oscar in 1962.

A Man for All Seasons - What debt is owed to one's own conscience? What debt is owed to the law imposed by society, especially when the rule of law is the only things between order and chaos? Won the Best Picture Oscar in 1966.

Apocalyse Now - The craziest characters ever to appear in a war movie, but they fit the craziest war and the craziest government. Nominated for the Best Picture Oscar in 1979.

The Bridge on the River Kwai - What is duty? What is sane under insane conditions? The second craziest characters ever to appear in a war movie. Won the Best Picture Oscar in 1957.

The Lion in Winter - The most dysfunctional family in history, and they even have a gay son in the closet. Nominated for the Best Picture Oscar in 1968.
