I use an e-cigarette. And I feel so much healthier and so much more energetic now than I did when I was smoking actual cigarettes. And saving money. Yes, there is nicotine, but there is no smoke full of tar and cyanide and whatever else going into my body or the bodies of those around me. Plus you can step down your nicotine dosage and get to a point where you are using a liquid with no nicotine at all. At that point, you can stop altogether, but even if you still want the action, it's just vapor. And the PG in the vapor is also used in food, mouthwash, cosmetics, deodorant, and more. So I think it is a huge help and exponentially safer and helathier than cigarettes. If the FDA wants to look at it, that's fine. But no, it should not be taxed like cigarettes because they are not cigarettes. I'd like to say this product is a non-influence on non-smokers - because I hope non-smokers never start smoking at all. However, if for some reason a non-smoker felt they absolutely, positively had to pick up the habit, an e-cig is soooo ( ... )

I don't smoke for the nicotine, I smoke because I enjoy the act of smoking... I'm not convinced these would mimic that experience sufficiently well.

Actually I think that's why these have worked so well for so many people. I know a lot of people who had quit before for a few weeks at a time - plenty of time to break the nicotine addiction. It's the activity - holding it, inhaling, exhaling, watching the smoke - that seems to keep people coming back to the habit. With the e-cig, you still get to all of that. You can feel the vapor as you inhale and exhale, and see it when you exhale, too.

I tend to agree with this. Smoking is so much less an addiction as it is a habit. if this allows you to continue the habit while simultaneously weaning you off of the nicotine physical addition, then it seems the perfect solution.

while i personally do not smoke, i have a friend who sells these. She and the people who have bought them swear by it. I have no opinion, being a non smoker(I used to use Skoal but kicked it when I was moving to NY) but it seems like something people find useful, as well as an option for people who can't smoke in their residences.

Heh, this came up in a lab meeting recently. The head honcho in our lab was like "I can hook you guys up" (he's one of the top nicotine researchers in the world). It was silly. But it's an interesting product, I will be following what happens with it.
