FAQ

Here's a list of some questions and answers that we anticipate. Also, if you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask here.

Q: What does the word 'battle' denote?
Basically, this competition is different from your average icontest or LIMS. While there are eliminations and whatnot like a LIMS, a battle differs in that the challenges are much more intricate--to make it seem really battle-like. Also, after some period of time, iconists will be paired off into brackets and compete against each other, rather than always competing against an entire pool of competitors. There are other subtle differences, too, but those are the main ones. :')

Q: What is an avatar?
An avatar is just a manga character you choose to represent yourself so that your identity stays private throughout the competition. You do NOT have to icon your avatar character (unless we say so), it's just used for anonymity's sake. All iconmakers will be revealed at the end of the competition.

Q: What if I want to stay anonymous when you reveal the names at the end?
Just let us know when you choose your avatar and we'll keep your identity private.

Q: Why are the avatars black and white? Why not color them like manga_battle?
Actually, they only start out black and white. After each challenge (following preliminaries), we will be coloring in a little bit of the avatars of the people who haven't been eliminated. So by the very end, the top people remaining will have fully colored avatars. We just thought it'd be a little fun feature. :3

Q: So am I allowed to post my icons after results are posted?
So long as your identity is not compromised. Like, if you didn't win PC or MC, it would be fine since people wouldn't be able to match up your icon with your avatar, they'd only know that you were the one who made it.

Q: Why are all comments in the community screened?
This is so that we make sure everything stays private and your identities aren't compromised. Also, this way we wouldn't have to worry about forgetting to screen comments during voting and whatnot. XD

Q: What's the terminology used here?
Battle -> Challenge
War -> Round
Sick Day -> Skip

Q: What does 'Teishoku' mean?
It's the Japanese word for "coloring".

Q: What's the schedule for voting and submitting?
Submissions close on Fridays at midnight, central time. Voting starts at that time and goes until 8:00 PM, central time that following Sunday. The new Battle is posted shortly after that, and so on.

Q: Is voting required?
No, but we highly recommend it.

Q: Why hold a preliminary round?
This is to determine initial rankings. No iconmakers will be eliminated. Obviously you can't use a sick day since you have to submit an icon in order to sign up.

Q: How many Sick Days do I get?
You only get ONE sick day for the entire War, so make sure that you don't forget to submit twice! When you take a sick day, you do not gain or lose points for that battle and you are also immune from elimination.

Q: Will there be comeback battles?
Yes, each War will have a battle where those who have been eliminated are able to return if they are voted back in. You will return as your original avatar and your points will be reverted to the average point count of all the other iconmakers still remaining.
