Today's accomplishments so far:

1. Woke up. Discovered that having a thermometer in the apartment is depressing when it's 63.5 degrees inside.
2. Turned on space heater.
3. Discovered that toaster is on strike, and will not make toast.
4. Ate frozen bread for breakfast.
5. RMA'd my defective router from Newegg and paid ten dollars in shipping for ( Read more... )

El.
Oh.
El.

I was gonna suggest that you could always take the toaster to WalMart. They take ANYTHING at wallyworld so long as you can state how much you "paid" for it. I learned this quite well when I had the dilemma of finding JC Penny curtains amongst those SUPPOSED to be in the storage.

Does the fire alarm still chirp? If it does, you coulda sapped the last of the juice in the battery. Check the date, too, cuz all three were expired in our apartment when we moved in LOL.

I shall keep the WalMart suggestion in mind... I'm sure the toaster won't be the only thing I have issues with and can't return, given my luck lately. ;) Thanks.

The fire alarm stopped chirping, now, but I'm trying to pull the battery out so I can clean my oven with burning (smoking) heat and just leave a window open... Unfortunately, I can't get the case off the battery, so it's just sort of hanging by its wires in the hallway, at the moment. There's some way to pull the wires out, I'm sure. Now, if I could figure out what that way was, we'd be in business.

...Heh, if I didn't sap the battery before, I have a feeling I will by the end.

Just keep in mind with WalMart that they may limit your exchanges if the item is $20 or more retail (they swipe your ID) so you may want to have friends handy if you have more than that.

I'm not sure otherwise about those alarms that are hard-wired into the building. I know my sister in law had them, and they were useful to the point that when someone's apartment was on fire EVERYONE knew. But that's it.

As for the defective oven, you should complain to the property owner/management about that and they should replace it. Should is a good word to use here ...
