Open up "Process Viewer" or "Activity Monitor" (depending on your vers. of OSX) and snoop around for any rogue processes running- specifically, something that looks like the speech program you were using. Maybe it's launching automagically and sitting in the background somehow? That is truly odd.

If all else fails, does killing the volume help, or does it shout right through? If so, your compy is possessed and should be taken to the local exorcist. It's a standard procedure.

no.. we use the MAC voice to say stupid sayings similar to "Bitch, you ain't hard"
