Ya'll may or may not know this, but I work for a not-for-profit called the Indiana University Telefund. Basically, we call alumni and ask for money. It's a pretty miserable job, and I'm eager to leave it in either a week or the end of the summer (depending on certain circumstances ( Read more... )

Well, it's worth saying that, at least in my experience, those liberal programs often seem to be bad at making themselves relevant beyond just "the betterment of the world". I'm all for that cause, of course, but if they're out to make any change, they've gotta appeal to more than just the bearded intellectuals.

Of course, this is where you and I tend to divide: I'm a believer in (highly regulated) capitalism, and few things hearten me more than seeing someone make social responsibility profitable (if for nothing else, it tugs at what socialist-leaning heartstrings I do have, as I think the socially responsible acts that are profitable tend to draw money away from the upper 1%).
