Here [Background]
The Medicine Seller's personal history is unknown, and never delved into, so one would simply have to go by fan speculation and subtle hints in the series. We do know that he was made for the purpose of fighting and killing Mononoke, creatures that form from 'Ayakashi' from human hatred, greed and cruelty corrupting the world and people around them. He is shown throughout the series hunting said Mononoke, and solving the mysteries behind their appearance. Said task is not as easy as it sounds. He is in possession of a sword called 'the sword of exorcism' that can only be wielded when he finds the Mononoke's Shape (true form), Truth (the reason for the mononoke's existence), and Reason (what it hopes to accomplish). It seems that most people he has come in contact with are unwilling to share their true stories until it is far too late, and often end up getting killed by the Mononoke. ( and most of them deserve it. ).
[Personality]
The Medicine seller is not a man of many faces, often seeming stoic and unimpressed by those he meets. His dedication to his 'work' seems to be his top priority, and often dislikes dealing with personal affairs unless said affairs include a Mononoke that needs to be slayed. He has a caustic dry wit and unsurpassed knowledge of the supernatural, he is also extremely polite when need be. He is hardly ever surprised, but if he is, surely everyone around him will be on the edge of their seats and riddled with fear. He has a somewhat twisted vision of good and evil, and honestly isn't the one you'd want to go to just for protection. Since most of his dealings consist of Mononoke and killing them off, he doesn't really give a damn about who gets in the way of that. Unless said person has information he needs on the Mononoke and a way to figure out the truth, form and regret? He's likely to be uninterested. He doesn't often mingle, and doesn't really care about your history, or your dying grandmother, but that doesn't mean he's a complete asshole. He's simply dedicated to his job, really dedicated to it. He is still an apothecary, and he does his job well, so those who are sick may get a helping hand for the right price. He usually doesn't answer questions unless he feels like it, or they pertain to what he's doing. He also loves to gossip quite a bit, mostly to stir up trouble and for his own amusement.
He fears but one thing, and one thing alone; that at the edge of the world there is no form, truth, or regret. and he without those three things, and without Mononoke, there is no Medicine Seller, no reason to exist. When asked about this fear though, he had an unnerving calmness about him.
However! The Medicine seller is not without emotion. Quite the contrary, he feels fear, amusement, confusion, just like everyone else. He just hides it behind his perpetual knowing smirk. He is quick-witted, and oddly protective of the innocent people that may be around him. He is often described as mysterious, as it is extremely hard to read him, if one can do so at all. He sometimes takes odd routes to accomplish what he needs to do, such as getting himself imprisoned just for the sake of staying where he needed to stay. His humor is oftentimes dark, and said with a fanged grin that might make people question whether or not he's really joking. His speech is slow, calculated and usually with long pauses in between words. This might be done to keep people guessing what he's going to say next, or maybe he just likes messing with them.
He has shown general concern for a person's wellbeing before, so it is assumed he may be a bit more human than people initially assume. When Kayo was having a freak-out on the ship after being shown her worst fear, it was the Medicine Seller that consoled her. There have been rare moments after this where he has shown compassion, but not without that trademark stoic face of his. It's debatable what really goes on in his head at times.
All in all The unnamed Medicine Seller is a man of many mysteries, well traveled and well versed in various cultures. Talented in the ways of medicine, and even more talented in the art of slaying beasts created by human emotions. He will protect those that need protection; but not without good reason, he will give medicine to those that need it; but not without a price. He will laugh, but will you really know what he's laughing at? No one is entirely sure what's lingering behind that painted smile, nor is he willing to tell you. His twisted sense of justice may help or hinder, but really all he cares about is destroying Mononoke and fulfilling his duties to mankind.
In the end...he's just a simple medicine seller, with many complicated secrets.
[Specialties/Abilities]
It is suggested that he isn't entirely human, and one would assume as much with the ridiculous, almost psychic intuition he has when approaching any situation. Aside from that, he seems almost indestructible, to the point where even the attacking Mononoke hesitate in taking aim at him. He is a very skilled apothecary, and upon finding the form, truth and regret of a Mononoke, can weild the 'sword of exorcism' to destroy it. Said sword is extremely powerful, and when he uses it, he takes an alternate form of a tan man with light hair and gold markings. His 'other self' some would call it, and possibly a mononoke.
[Affection] The Medicine Seller doesn't usually deal out affections. I'd say try, but it's likely he'll just stare at you, or outright deny you with a turn of his head or something. W/e
[Fighting] Go ahead. but he's just a humble medicine seller.
[Other Permissions] Go ahead and try and read his mind. You probably won't get much besides complicated pictures or something funky.
[Other Facts]He paints his nails.
