Hey f-list, I have a question for you. I have a set of speakers that plugs into my computer tower. When I plug my headphones into these speakers, I can (barely) hear one local radio station. Always the same station, I've had two different sets of speakers, and when I plug my headphones directly into my computer, I never have this problem. The ( Read more... )

Your speakers are somehow receiving radio frecuencies. ...So odd. I don't know that much sonic physics so I can't be much help, but have you tried changing the position of the speakers by your computer?

Oh... well, the first time I noticed it was at the other end of the living room; the whole computer has since been relocated (I know it isn't 100% relevant orz) but even then I've had them closer and farther to the computer itself and the only time it gets stronger/weaker that I can tell is the way I lean (closer to the monitor/keyboard, etc. it gets quieter, farther back it gets louder).

Hmm, so then it might be more related to your headphones and speakers. If only you can test the speakers out on another computer there...

I doubt this consequence is damaging, but it is quite bizarre. I hope someone on your flist can explain the factors! And. Find a solution.

You gave me keywords to finally be able to look it up, and it looks like a) I need to alert the radio station that my speakers are picking them up without me actively tuning in and b) possibly buy ... ferrite rings? Which I can buy at Radio Shack.

So!! I will notify CD 106.3 of what's going on and see ... if I need to buy ferrite rings in future. It isn't so surprising that I'm picking them up, I guess, since they're just a few blocks away, and since I'm not picking up interference from the 3-4 other stations in the same building it might be on their end... I think.

anyway thank you, Kei! I kept trying to figure out what was going on with Google-fu but without those keywords from you I was faaailing. ♥
