REGULUS.ARCTURUS.BLACK
Gender: Male
Year & House: Slytherin almnus
Affiliation: Death Eaters
Appearance:
Regulus has a rather lanky frame. Never having overeaten as a child, Regulus carries little around on his fragile bones. When he was younger, Regulus used to have health issues, causing him to be weaker than other boys. He has since grown out of this, but he remains pale of face, and small of stature. His height only adds to the appearance of skinniness.
His facial features are elegant and refined, as expected of a pureblood. Soft, smooth skin covers him, and his jet black hair often falls over his eyes. Constantly his mother cut his hair as a child, but as he has gotten older, Regulus had deemed the longer style to be more fitting of him. His mother still fusses, but she agrees, almost grudgingly, that he looks quite handsome with longer locks. Regulus thinks she argues simply because Sirius used to have longer hair.
Clear brown eyes stare from beneath his fringe, always looking at something, always searching. In public, Regulus is always impeccably dressed, straight backed, and fluid in his movements. He presents the picture of society, always.
History:
Regulus grew up as the younger sibling. Often overlooked, more fragile younger brother to the family heir. His mother doted on him, simply for the fact that he was not as strong physically as Sirius. He was weaker. But she loved him more, if that was possible. It seemed like the older Sirius got, the more their mother loved Regulus. Sirius tended to be something of a wild spirit, and Regulus's calmer demeanor appealed more to the matron of the Black family.
For Regulus's part, he tried to stay out of the limelight as much as possible. His brother was more suited to that sort of thing. Regulus watched his brother become more and more rebellious, and for the most part he didn't know what to think. Their mother drilled into him the need for propriety. The Black family values. Regulus lived his life by them. At his mother's wishes. As a boy, Regulus was completely devoted to his mother. But he loved spending time with his brother as well.
When Sirius went off to Hogwarts, the whole thing was a nightmare for Regulus. Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor. And their mother ranted and raved at Regulus about how much of a fiasco the whole thing was. Sirius didn't seem to care as much, thus Regulus got the brunt of her anger. Regulus figured that that was when he truly began to lose his brother. Before then, Regulus thought they might have had something of a friendship still. But afterwards, Regulus was kept well away from his brother.
The following year Regulus was sent off to Hogwarts with the stern warning to stay as far away from his brother as possible. Their mother was not a pleasant woman, and Regulus feared what might get back to her. So he stayed away. It wasn't hard. Sirius was in another House altogether. Regulus could hide in the Slytherin dungeons and be perfectly safe.
When Sirius finally ran away, Regulus hid in his room for a week after that. Mother wasn't pleased, and Regulus was not the confrontational kind. But she found him, and lectured him on the importance of family. And that Sirius was no longer family. He had been burned off the tapestry, and that if he spoke to his brother ever again, it would be a crime against the entire Black clan. Regulus, for his part, nodded. At this time, he was beginning to suspect the sanity of his mother, but he wouldn't dare question her. She gave him so much, and Regulus knew she loved him. It was just a question of how her love was shown.
Of course, Regulus heard about the man called Lord Voldemort. His mother whispered to him about what a wonderful person he was, and what he would do for the pureblooded society. It thrilled Regulus and inspired him. To reform the world so it would be a proper place. A place where people had the right sort of ideals. And with all the talk from his friends, and his family, Regulus's eagerness to join the ranks of Voldemort grew every second. When he was sixteen, he joined with them, very willing to do whatever it took. He just didn't know what all that entailed.
It all seemed like a dream, the fervor he felt at first joining with the Dark Lord. When the utopia world he had expected didn't seem to really be on the agenda, but rather killing, and subversion, Regulus began to doubt the whole thing. It took him a long time to realize that this was not what he wanted. It was not what he wished to do. And so, he began to contemplate how to get out. Or rather, how to stop the Dark Lord.
Personality:
Regulus is a careful person. He tries not to speak rashly, or without proper thought beforehand. In his new world, his new life, saying the wrong thing could have disastrous consequences. Thinking the wrong thing could have disastrous consequences. He controls himself as well as he is able, careful to present the picture of purebloodedness at all times. He is proud of his status as a pureblood, but his arrogance is not nearly at the height of some others.
As a young child, Regulus used to think he wanted to grow up just like his older brother. Sirius, though only a year older, seemed like he always had fun. And Regulus missed that about his life. He was stuck in piano lessons. Dancing lessons. All these lessons teaching him the life of a refined pureblood. He was only 7! And even then, Regulus resented the fact that he couldn't have a normal childhood.
It was just a phase, though, one he grew out of quickly enough. As he got older, and attended Hogwarts, Regulus developed into a reserved young man. He spoke softly, and not often, at least around people he hardly knew. His manners were always impeccable, never forgetting them.
For the most part, Regulus has a very approachable manner. He is friendly in a genuine sort of way. He is not condescending, and he doesn't make fun of other people. It's quite remarkable that he has grown up with this sort of take on life, but Regulus feels that you can gain more from being friendly to people, than being rude.
