This part is so very eerie. They are all nervous and looking for the meaning in even small things like seeing the eagle. It shows that the danger is growing. I like this part. Thank you for a very lovely reading.
I like this part Me too! Tolkien does a great job conveying the uncertainty of their situation, and the way the very landscape seems to be against them.
I remember the first time I read the book that I was really worried that they were going to crash on those rocks! Tension adds to tension in this chapter, and you just know something bad is coming.
